What are T1 and T2 documents — and what’s the difference?
If your goods cross EU borders or move within the EU, you probably need T1 or T2 transit documents. Here’s a simple explanation:
📌 What is a T1 document?
T1 is a transit document used for goods that are not yet customs cleared in the EU.
📦 When do you need T1?
When goods arrive in the EU (e.g. through a German port) and travel to a warehouse in Poland.
The goods are in transit before customs clearance.
👉 T1 allows you to move goods across the EU without paying duties or VAT upfront.
📌 And what is T2?
T2 is also a transit document, but it’s used for goods already in free circulation within the EU.
📍 Example: shipping goods from Poland to Ireland via Switzerland. Since Switzerland is outside the EU, you’ll need a T2 document to temporarily exit and re-enter the EU.
